Companies predicts that software exports will swell to $6.2 billion in the year to March
2001 from $4 billion last year. "The opportunities are absolutely huge as India
accounts for only two per cent of the global IT market," said E M Warburg Pincus
& Co (Asia) managing director Dalip Pathak at the conference. "India has so far focused on the US markets and has not even
started to scratch the surface of Europe and Japan. The opportunities are huge
there," Pathak said. The United States accounts for about 60 per cent of India's
software exports, while Europe accounts for 25 per cent and Japan around 5-7 per
cent."
